At Last; Another Scarf!

After waiting for over a month to receive another scarf, the next installment of The Traveling Scarf project finally arrived. The color scheme for this one consists of grey, army green, brown, black, purple, burgundy, or turquoise. I have a lovely burgundy yarn that I would like to have used, however, the section I was adding to was a shade of burgundy already, so I opted for grey.  I really wanted to use my Caron United and since burgundy was out, grey was in!

The pattern instructions were very flexible. We could use any pattern we chose, so I found a stitch pattern I liked called Chain of Hearts. I found it on Pinterest, which is where I've been finding most of my scarf stitch patterns. It's a simple lace rib pattern, but I'm not so sure it looks like hearts. The site where I got the pattern used a much lighter weight yarn than the worsted weight I used. Perhaps it is meant for lighter weight yarns, but I still like the look of it. I guess I can sort of see the hearts in the pattern the more I look at it.

While I had hoped to get this scarf mailed before I went to the hospital, I didn't make it to the post office. Fortunately, I did get it finished before I went to the hospital; which was more important. I needed to get a bigger envelope. The scarves have outgrown the envelope size I've been using up until now.
These scarves are getting so long they don't really fit on my coffee table anymore, either! I have just thrree more scarves to finish and then I will receive my own scarf back. I can't wait to see it!

My Favorite Project

While I was living in Virginia in 2011, I had access to a wonderful yarn shop in Yorktown. This yarn shop literally has everything! It was here that I was introduced to ruffly yarn by Rozetti called Marina.

I learned how to knit with this yarn and made my first Frilly Scarf. The colors are wonderful. Some have been discontinued. I bought a few skeins in different colors. I made a few as gifts. When my husband and I moved back to Ohio I was wearing my "Pink Camo" scarf a lot. We went to the local Gander Mountain and the manager admired the scarf and asked if I sell them. I had been toying with the idea of selling my handmade knits and this just really confirmed to me that I should go ahead and give it shot. And so my Etsy shop was born!

These scarves are so fun to make and so eye catching it is no wonder they are my favorite project to make! I tend to make a new scarf if I'm between projects or don't know what to knit, but need to knit. I have three that I have made for myself and I have sold a few and given some as gifts to family. I still get compliments on them whenever I wear them out and about.

Another Project

Yesterday afternoon I had my weekly knitting lesson. It was about increasing and decreasing like last week, but today we started a pattern. I say "we," however, I was the only one there this week! So, I started a new pattern. It's a scarf. The pattern is called Norwegian fir lace. It's pretty and delicate. I supposed I could have chosen a daintier yarn, but I loved the color of this yarn. The biggest downfall is I seem to have picked out a bad skein. It was the last one left in this color, go figure; and I just had to have it.

Tangled mess!

I spent most of yesterday afternoon and evening knitting and detangling the skein. Today I was at it again until I couldn't get the knots out anymore. I got some help this afternoon. Teamwork always gets the job done! It was a mess and it turned out it was not even all together! We had to tie the ends together once we got it untangled. The whole skein is full of knots and when the largest tangle was undone, it came apart! Now it is all together and the remaining yarn is in a neat ball. I'm going to need another skein and I don't know if there's another in this color. I want to donate the finished scarf to charity. It's frustrating that the skein was so bad.
All in all, I am optimistic about the progress and I think it's going to be pretty once it's done.

It's Growing!

Meanwhile, my old experiment is growing. It started off as practice for knitting the garter stitch. Then, I figured out the purl stitch. I made some mistakes and ripped it apart and started all over. It helped keep me in practice with casting one anyway. So, the last time I started it over, I knitted a couple rows. Then I think I purled four rows and then knitted 4 and then purled 4. Then I decided I wanted it to have vertical ribbing so I did something like k5; p5.
I have almost finished the first skein of yarn. I bought another skein to knit in when I run out so it will be as long as I need it to be. Hopefully, I will remember correctly what I did on that first end so the other end matches. I suppose if it doesn't match it will be OK. Someone around here will wear it. And yes, that's my toe in the bottom corner there. I had to stand on the couch in order to get the whole thing to fit in the shot!
